Beware: Invasive Plant ID Workshop and Walks

at Environmental Learning Center, 255 Live Oak Dr., Vero Beach, or online via Zoom

The Friends of St. Sebastian River, the Eugenia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, and the Environmental Learning Center will be holding a live and virtual workshop on non-native invasive plants on Sunday, March 28th, 1:30pm. Please join us to learn what invasive plants are, why they are bad, and how to identify them, plus get some tips to help you control them in your yard. The event will be held in-person at the Environmental Learning Center and concurrently online via Zoom. Due to COVID precautions, in-person attendance is limited to 20 people.

You will learn about non-native invasive plants that you likely already know, including Brazilian pepper (Schinus terebinthifolia) shown above. But, what about the grass, full of seeds, shown below that is known as one of the world’s worst weeds?

The live workshop will be followed by an invasive plant ID walk at the Environmental Learning Center. Additional invasive plant ID walks will be held at the South Prong Preserve, 7775 85th Street (CR510), on Thursday, April 8th, 4pm, and at the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area, 150 9th Street SE (Oslo Rd), on Saturday, April 10th, 2pm.
