Hidden Hammock a Huge Hit

A break in the week’s turbulent weather cooperated to allow the Eugenia Chapter’s June 20, 2024 yard tour to take place at the home of Susan and George Yount.

Members and guests enjoyed a lovely, breezy, mostly bug-free evening despite the dense vegetation. The inviting, curving paths wound through a beautiful quiet hammock dominated by a huge live oak canopy.

Susan and George have lived there for more than 30 years and their love of the native plant habitat, their creativity, and a bit of whimsy were apparent to all who attended.

More than 30 of us followed the path past their daughter’s playhouse and their unique Florida Cracker style home (both built by George) nestled among the oaks, firebush, ferns, and so much blooming wild coffee. We viewed a whimsical dollhouse, carved from a fallen tree stump, and laughed at an old bathtub filled with giant leather ferns!

The evening ended with a lively auction of native plants generously donated by chapter members.

Thanks again to Susan and George!
