Flower Power Diversity

The Eugenia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society changed up its format for the October 17, 2024 meeting held at the Environmental Learning Center.

Its ever popular auction began at 5:30 pm. Attendees actively bid on a diverse offering of native plants including butterfly orchids (Encyclia tampensis), stoppers (Eugenia axillaris and foetida), and coffees (Psychotria nervosa; even a pink variety!). Several books, most notably Gil Nelson’s Florida’s Best Native Landscape Plants, sold to successful bidders.

Jenny Ryan, from the Florida Wildflower Foundation, was the star of the meeting with her presentation titled “20 Easy-to-Grow Wildflowers”. Her colorful slides featured rainbow colors of wildflowers and butterflies they attract.

Familiarize yourself with the FWF website as it offers a diversity of information about native plants in general, not just wildflowers. Plus, you can access downloadable publications as well as information about webinars, field trips and other native plant events throughout Florida.
