The Eugenia Chapter is named after a plant that commonly is called Simpson’s stopper, nakedwood stopper, or twinberry stopper. Once upon a time when the Chapter was formed, its botanical name was Eugenia dicrana and the National Champion tree was located in Indian River County. Now, its botanical name is Myrcianthes fragrans. Whatever you call it, this plant is a wonderful native plant for Indian River County as a shrub or tree with wonderful white fragrant flowers for pollinators and juicy red berries beloved by birds and other wildlife.

Chapter officers include:

President Carol Thomas

Vice-president Peggy Perkins

Secretary Carla Flournoy

Treasurer Fran Robinson

The Eugenia Chapter gives acknowledgment and thanks to Janice Broda for the original construction of this website. Her contribution of informative text and eye-catching photographs reflected her extensive experience with native plant flora.
