9/19/2019: Yard of Carla Flournoy

carla & group

Carla Flournoy hosted the 9/19/2019 meeting at her home in the Indian Trails subdivision.  This community has a magnificent canopy of live oaks.

Carla explained that her yard had been beset with drainage problems.  She engaged Landscape Architect Robin Pelensky to design rain (stormwater) gardens for her yard. Spencer Porteous of Digg Gardens did the installation.

This landscape does not include any sod.  Pictured above is one of the shell walking paths.  Oak leaves serve as mulch.

Above are photos of one of the shelled rain garden with a variety of native plants including beach dune sunflower (Helianthus debilis), railroad vine (Ipomoea pes-capre), and wild coffee (Psychtoria nervosa).  Thank you to Bob Bruce for all of the pictures in this post.
